WHAT TO EXPECT ON SUNDAY
Our services and classes are open to everyone. We welcome you to join with us at any time. Also, we understand it might be a little daunting for those who have never attended a church service before or are unfamiliar with our style of worship. To make it easier, this page gives you some idea of what to expect.
Before Worship:
To begin with, you need to know where we are. Here's a convenient map and driving directions. We are located directly in front of the County Court House. Our address is 200 West Pearl Street.
When You Arrive:
You may park in any available space in our parking lot, or you may park behind the church next to the water tower. There is also parking along the street. We also have spots for those with disabled parking placards. An elevator is available at the East Entrance. Dress as casual or as formal as you like! The restrooms are just down the hallway form the church office.
During Worship:
Jerseyville First Baptist Church is a friendly church. Be prepared to be warmly greeted and engaged in conversation. When you arrive at the door you will be offered a worship bulletin with an outline of the service, and activities for the week. Also we ask you to please turn off your cell phone if you have one.
If you arrive late, just help yourself to a seat. If you need to leave early, no-one will complain if you slip out.
You may sit anywhere, no seats are reserved. We encourage people to bring a Bible if they have one. If not, Bibles are provided in the pew for your convenience. The service will include a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship choruses, soloists and choral music.
Children are welcome in our service. Believing it is important for parents, grandparents, and children to worship together, children are invited to our services. It is our practice to let parents and children decide what level of participation is feel comfortable. We provide a children's time in the service and a children's church. Nursery facilities are available for parents of infants.( Newborn to Age 3)
You are not expected to contribute to the work of the church (that's our responsibility) so don't feel embarrassed to pass the collection plate without putting anything in it. Many church members contribute once a month, so you won't be the only one just passing the plate on.
The first Sunday of each month is, "Communion Sunday". We invite all who have professed faith in Christ, regardless of their church affiliation, to participate with us if they like. If you are unsure of the meaning of communion, feel free to ask the pastor, or the person who greeted you at the door and we will gladly explain it to you.
**Attendance sheets are in each pew row. Please tell us the names of all family members worshipping with us and pass the pad down your row so everyone has an opportunity to sign. Brochures with information about our church are available at the back of the sanctuary.
